FAQs

  • No worries! Todo bien - young children are incredibly adaptable and naturally pick up languages through daily interactions, songs, and play. We use a warm, engaging approach that includes gestures, visual aids, and repetition to help children understand and feel comfortable. Many of our students start with little or no Spanish experience, and over time, they build comprehension and confidence at their own pace.

  • No, we will work with you once you believe your child is ready to be potty trained. Generally, this is when a child begins to show interest in using the toilet and can “hold it” for a few hours.

  • We practice green cleaning, as recommended by the San Francisco Department of Public Health. We utilize their recommended products and best pracitices to sanitize/disinfect our high-touch surfaces, toys and outdoor equipment throughout the day. This helps us be tough on germs while maintaining an environment that prioritizes your child's well-being!

  • Yes. At Mi Second Casa, we are committed to keeping high quality childcare accessible to families in our community.

Both our in-home program and our center programs participate in the 4Cs of San Mateo County Alternative Payment Program, which provides childcare subsidies for families who meet eligibility requirements. Families interested in applying for financial assistance through 4Cs are encouraged to contact them directly for more information about eligibility and enrollment in the program.

At our new center location, we also offer a Community Access Tuition Adjustment for families whose household income is at or below 80% of Area Median Income (AMI) based on annual guidelines published for San Mateo County. Eligible families may qualify for a 10% tuition adjustment, subject to availability. A limited number of Community Access Tuition Adjustment spaces are available each year and eligibility is reviewed annually.

Please contact us if you would like more information about eligibility or how to apply.

  • We observe all State holidays and we have a one week spring break, a one week summer break and a two week winter break. We strive to provide our annual calendar well before a new year. Tuition payments remain the same on school closure days and when your child is on vacation.

  • We use positive guidance to address challenging behavior. This includes setting clear expectations, redirecting behavior, modeling appropriate actions, and encouraging emotional regulation. We focus on positive reinforcement and create a supportive environment to help children learn and grow.

  • We do our best to be inclusive as possible, such as providing only vegeterian foods or not proving foods that a child is allergic to. We will work with you if there are additional dietary needs your child may have.

  • We actively communicate with parents throughout the day via Brightwheel, a childcare app. We send photos and other updates such as nap time, diaper changes, and feeding times.

  • Our teachers are guided by the following principles when communicating with a child:

    • A child is not giving me a hard time, a child is having a hard time.

    • Positive talk and acknowledgement

      • Eg., instead of "don't grab the food!", we say "Hands on your lap, please. I see your hands on your lap, that means you are ready to eat - thank you!"

    • Validating a child's emotions

    • Reinforcement over punishment

      • Positive reinforcement (rewarding behavior by adding something a child finds positive):

        • "if we clean up, we can have a special treat for snack"

      • Negative reinforcement (rewarding behavior by taking away something a child finds negative)

        • "if we clean up now, we do not have to clean up at the end of the day"
